Jonathan Kemp

Jonathon has over twenty-five years of media experience in both the UK and the US, working in Broadcasting, Film, and Independent TV production.

He has recently co-founded Indielab Consultancy with Victoria Powell (founder of Indielab) and is also a non-executive director of Summer Films.

Over the last four years he raised $8m to set up a film and UK TV production company. In the first two years of the fund closing, Locomotive produced two films Maggie’s Plan and Look Away and set up Locomotive TV (now Summer Films). During this period, he also consulted for production company Lucky 8.

Previously Jonathon was the CFO for Shed Media, where he helped grow the company from a scripted production company with a £15m turnover into a multinational super indie with a turnover of over £100m. This was achieved by floating the company on the London Stock Exchange (AIM), which enabled an acquisition strategy.

During the time on the Stock Market he led the process of buying three production companies and a distribution business. For this he won Deal of the Year (2006 Quoted Companies Awards) and was shortlisted for both Float of the Year (2006 Quoted Companies Awards) and Young Finance Director of the Year (2005 FD Excellence Awards). In 2010 Jonathon with the CEO de-listed Shed Media through a purchase by Warner Brothers in a deal worth over $200m.

Jonathon started his media career training as an accountant at Nickelodeon, moving to Fox Kids before becoming the Finance Director of Capital Films, a film finance and distribution company. In addition to running the finance department and completing finance for several films, he also reviewed a few options to sell the company.
