Polly Leys, Founder Hillbilly Television
Hillbilly was set up and is run by BAFTA Award-winning producers Kate Norrish and Polly Leys. The company is known for producing high-end multi-award winning TV drama and comedy as well as feature films.
As well as running the company, Polly and Kate have Executive Produced Loaded (8×45’) a comedy drama written by Jon Brown for Channel 4 and AMC and The Level (6×60’) a crime series for ITV written by Gaby Chiappe and Alex Perrin. A US remake of The Level is now in development with NBC.
Hillbilly’s other credits (all overseen by Kate and Polly) include Randomfor Channel 4 which won the BAFTA for Best Single Drama and Holy Flying Circus for BBC4 which won a Broadcast Award and was BAFTA nominated. On the feature side, they have made Second Comingstarring Idris Elba for Film4 and the BFI which premiered at TIFF and went on to win the Big Screen Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Prior to setting up Hillbilly, Polly worked with film producer Uberto Pasolini with whom she co-produced The Full Monty, one of the most profitable films of all time. In addition to its commercial success the film was nominated for four Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and won the Audience Award and Best Film at the BAFTAs. Polly’s other film credits include The Crying Game, Palookaville, The Closer You Get and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
